The article examines the role and functions of communicative competence in the professional activity of future agricultural engineers. It identifies typical occupational communication situations and systematises information-communicative, interactive-coordinating, social-perceptual, regulatorymanagerial, conflictological, and reflective-corrective functions. Occupational activity analysis, functional modelling, comparative analysis, and pedagogical interpretation were employed. A functional map based on the sequence ‘professional situation – communicative task – function – observable outcome’ is proposed. Communicative competence is shown to support not only the transmission of technical content but also teamwork, safety, mutual understanding among stakeholders, and socially responsible engineering decisions.
